Becoming Foster Parents: A New Beginning in 2004
In 2004, Johnny and Donna began their fostering journey through the state. What started as a desire to help children in need quickly turned into a lifelong commitment. Over the years, they welcomed many children into their home, eventually adopting five of them. After the fifth adoption, they decided to close their home, believing their journey had come to an end. However, the Owens soon felt the pull to foster again, opening their home once more in 2021.
Returning to Fostering: A New Chapter
In 2021, Johnny and Donna welcomed two new children into their home. Originally meant to stay for only two weeks, these children became permanent members of the Owens family.
"We were supposed to have them for just two weeks. But when the worker came to take them back, they didn’t have anywhere to go but residential care. That’s when I called Johnny, and we decided to keep them."
These two children, both autistic, presented unique challenges, but the Owens were determined to provide them with the love and care they needed.
Choosing Necco: A Support System Like No Other
The Owens had worked with the state before, but when they returned to fostering, they chose Necco as their agency. The support and training they received from Necco made a significant difference in their fostering experience.
The couple also highlighted the incredible support system Necco provided, making them feel like family. From caseworkers to counselors, Necco staff were always available to help.
The Roller Coaster of Fostering
Fostering isn’t always easy. Johnny and Donna have faced their share of challenges, especially caring for children with special needs. But they believe that the key to successful fostering is staying strong and being patient with the children in their care.
Despite the difficulties, Johnny and Donna know that the love and support they provide can make all the difference in a child’s life.
Advice for Aspiring Foster Parents
Johnny and Donna are passionate about encouraging others to consider fostering. Their advice for anyone thinking about it? Don’t hesitate—just do it.
"If you’re thinking about fostering, stop thinking and just go for it. You’ll be so blessed by the experience, especially if you work with Necco. We have to pour into these kids because they’ve been without for so long."
Their fostering journey has not only blessed their lives but has also given the children they’ve cared for a chance at stability, love, and a brighter future.
What Home Means: A Safe Place for Love and Growth
For the Owens, home is about more than just a roof over your head. It’s a place where children can feel safe, loved, and supported, no matter what challenges they face.
Through their fostering journey, Johnny and Donna have built a home filled with love, patience, and a deep commitment to helping children grow into happy, healthy individuals.
Johnny and Donna Owens’ story is one of resilience, dedication, and love. Their fostering journey has taken unexpected turns, but through it all, they’ve remained committed to giving children the safe, supportive environment they deserve.
